A Worthy Cause, Thanks to Jane Armer

September 7th, 2010 by Nicole

Boy have I been busy this past week at the office!  An exciting part of my job being the International Sales Coordinator is that each day is so different.

Thanks to Jane Armer, Solaris has been able to support a good cause.  Jane is a professor at the MU Sinclair School of Nursing and Director of Nursing Research at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center  and recently spent fifteen days in Cape Town for research mentoring and lymphedema classes.  She asked if  we would donate some samples to patients in financial need and to have us send them back with her colleagues who travel regularly to South Africa for teaching and research.

We managed to put together over 110 samples to bring to lymphedema patients in need in South Africa!  We hope they help :)

Blood Donation Day!

August 18th, 2010 by Nicole

Solaris is located within a mutli-tenant office facility and when all those companies combine, we get together and do great things.  There are days when market vendors come in and sell in the main foyer, charitable events are held and more.  Today, all of the companies in the facility welcomed the Blood Center of Wisconsin and hosted a blood donation event.  Solaris had four employees rise to the challenge!

According to the American Red Cross, only 3 out of 100 people in America donate blood.  That is only three percent of Americans who donate blood for so many out there who need it in life threatening situations.  To be honest, I was really surprised by this number upon visiting their website.  I would have guessed this percentage to be a lot higher.

Whether you work at a therapy office, belong to a LE support group, work at a DME office, etc.  Why don’t you think about hosting your own Blood Donation Day?  Together, we can make the donation percentage higher and the blood banks more plentiful for those in need!

Fundraiser for the Lymphedema Association of Ontario

August 10th, 2010 by Nicole

Team Lymphedema Niagara will participate in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, a local 5k Walk/Run in St. Catharines, as a fundraiser for the Lymphedema Association of Ontario (LAO). The walk/run is a satellite charity event that takes place one week prior to the actual event for those who cannot make it but still were interested in participating.

The money that is raised will go to the LAO to provide educational and awareness, materials and events for lymphedema patients, those at risk for lymphedema and for the medical community.

The LAO is an essential support group, lobbyist, information hub and more for those with Lymphedema and the medical professionals who treat those patients.  The LAO hosts an annual conference in Toronto for medical professionals and patients and they also publish a newsletter, Lymphedema Matters.

For more information on this event or on how to join or sponsor Team Lymphedema Niagara, email the team captain, John Mulligan at john@lymphedematherapist.com or call +1 (905) 687-1828.

Lymphedema Calendar Photoshoot…Best of Luck!

August 6th, 2010 by Nicole

Solaris would like to wish the members of the Facebook group Lymphoedema is Part of Who I am the best of luck this weekend.  They are putting together a lymphedema calendar to benefit the Lymphoedema Support Network and this weekend is their main photoshoot!  There are a few photos posted on the group’s Facebook site already and from the chats posted on the group,  it looks as if the LSN will be ready to sell the calendars mid-September.  Go check it out!

*Lymphedema is spelled Lymphoedema in the UK

A Bicycle Built for You

July 16th, 2010 by Dave

Whether you love hitting the open road with your pedal-powered two-wheeler or helping make a difference, the Tour de Pink is for you.

Now in it’s sixth year, the Tour de Pink (on Sunday, September 19th) is Texas’ first bike ride event solely benefiting breast cancer education and awareness programs (through the Pink Ribbons Project).

The Tour has almost raised $19,000 already, but still needs your help to reach their goal. Please click here to visit their site for more info and to see how you can help!

Thanks to Kristen Anderson at Ricky Knowles Hair & Wellness for sharing this. If you know of any events in your area feel free to let us know, we’d love to help spread the word!

Have a great weekend!
